Official recognition

The historical marker

For descendants, the marker is more than a sign. It is a public acknowledgment that the massacre happened and that the fifteen deserve to be remembered.

A long road to the marker

Descendants worked with historians and the nonprofit Refusing to Forget to secure an official Texas historical marker. The process required careful research, public advocacy, and persistence about how the state would describe Ranger responsibility.

Dedicated in 2018

The marker was unveiled during the centennial year. Families gathered in Presidio County, many visiting the region for the first time, to read the words and honor their ancestors together.

Public marker location

U.S. Highway 90, west of Marfa

The marker stands about 27 miles west of Marfa, near the Jeff Davis and Presidio county line. The massacre site itself is on private land and is not open to unescorted public access.
